Arthroscopic surgery can be used to address pathology in nearly every joint of the body and is often utilized to treat athletes with sports related injuries. Arthroscopic Surgery involves the use of small incisions around a joint to facilitate a minimally invasive procedure utilizing a camera, video monitor, and highly specialized instruments. As a result, the surgeon is able to visualize, diagnose, and treat problems inside the joint with minimal scarring and a potentially faster recovery.  During the procedure, the surgeon views an image of the joint transmitted by the camera to confirm the diagnosis prior to performing restorative and preservative surgery in the same setting. These procedures have received increased attention in recent years as they can often facilitate a more rapid recovery and potentially lead to less post-operative pain. Arthroscopic procedures have exceptional value for treating a variety of injuries suffered by all orthopedic patients. Most patients are able to go home the same day, although this is dependent on the complexity of their particular surgery.
